Life lesson from the flight attendant.
/No matter what airline you fly, there is always the IN AN EMERGENCY demonstration.
Do you remember the part about putting on your own oxygen mask before helping others?
Makes sense doesn’t it? You need to be able to breath before you can be of any use to anyone else.
I think this applies 100% in life. Do you take care of yourself first? If not, why not? Is it because you feel guilty? Has someone told you that you are selfish? Or think you just don’t have the time?
When you FEEL your best you can GIVE your best. That is the opposite of being selfish! If you don’t have the time, or think you don’t, maybe go back and read the post I did on time management. You HAVE time. You are worth it and the people (spouse, kids, pets, coworkers, extended family) that you love and take care of are worth it!
During the pandemic we heard a lot about self-care. So much that it became a catch phrase that everyone threw around to justify taking care of themselves.
Self-care has been defined as the process of taking care of oneself with behaviors that promote health and active management of illness when it occurs. Individuals engage in some form of self-care daily with food choices, exercise, sleep, and dental care. -Wikipedia
What does putting on your oxygen mask first mean to you? What puts you in the best mental, emotional and physical condition that you FEEL good? Maybe even great?
I read a great article called 5 Self-Care Practices for Every Area of Your Life that will give you some great ideas to incorporate into your life. It was written by a PhD so my guess is, they know more than me on the topic!
